August 14, 2017

The Northeastern Pennsylvania Industrial Resource Center (NEPIRC), in partnership with Lackawanna College, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, SIMONA AMERICA Inc. and the PA Department of Community & Economic Development, announced the upcoming launch of Hiring Our Heroes – accelerated manufacturing career readiness training for veterans.

This program is designed to prepare veterans for immediate placement within high-demand, well-paying manufacturing jobs. The entire program is available free of charge to local military veterans.

NEPIRC developed the 3-week curriculum based upon input from more than 30 regional manufacturers seeking to add to their workforce. As a result, a mix of technical and interpersonal skills, including Industrial Math, Blueprint Reading, Occupational Safety, Lean Manufacturing, Communication, Time Management, Embracing Diversity, CNC Basics, Machine Tool Basics and Machine Calibration will be covered in a blended adult-learner format of classroom time, simulation and application. The training also includes manufacturing plant tours and supplemental online learning.

“Our program was designed through collaboration with industry to ensure that we cover essential industrial career capabilities with sufficient depth, detail and effectiveness so that participants can secure and maintain good-paying jobs upon completion,” said NEPIRC President & CEO Eric Joseph Esoda.

“From my perspective, we’re engaging our most honorable citizens and providing them opportunities to enter our region’s best industry,” he added, “and we have employers waiting in the wings to interview and hire our veterans.”

Training will be provided by NEPIRC’s staff of experts, Lackawanna College faculty, Tooling U-SME and other subject matter experts. In addition to providing faculty resources, Lackawanna College is providing classroom, transportation and other support for the initiative.

“Lackawanna College is excited at the opportunity to partner with NEPIRC on this exceptional program. Providing pathways for local veterans to meaningful, family-sustainable wage positions in manufacturing not only helps them but our region as well. The program represents just one more way that Lackawanna College truly is Life Changing,” said Lackawanna College President Mark Volk.

The training program will begin on Monday, October 30th and run for three consecutive weeks.

Companies interested in supporting the program or hosting a plant tour, and veterans interested in participating are encouraged to email or call NEPIRC’s President & CEO at 570-819-8966 x116.
